What Is An Emotional Support Animal?

Over the last two years, one of the most popular topics of conversation on the internet has been emotional support animals.

Even though these animals seem outrageous at times, more and more people are taking advantage of having an animal with them wherever they go by classifying that animal as an emotional support animal.

If you’re a landlord in Las Vegas, the question that you need to ask yourself is should you allow your tenant to have an emotional support animal living with them in your rental property?

How To Know If The Emotional Support Animal Is Legitimate Or Not

The only real way that you're going to know if the emotional support animal is legitimate or not is to require the tenant to provide you with a letter from your doctor or psychiatrist which shows that they have a medical or psychiatric need to have that emotional support animal living with them in the rental property.

Unless the tenant can supply you with such a letter from a doctor or medical professional, the animal that they have living with them can be classified as a pet and it will be subject to your pet policy including having the tenant pay a pet deposit.
